Analogue Upcycle
Something has developed…
It´s taken a hefty chunk of time but I´m finally happy to announce the launch of my analogue upcycle project starting with these one off edition analogue books. Each book contains a collection of four hand printed images chosen to compliment each other and the book in which they´re sitting. Each book is hand crafted from an original book into an upcycled work of art and each piece is totally different in cover and in content. If you want to read more about my process in making them you can see an article I wrote that goes into more detail about that here. But for now without further ado here are all the books and a little bit about each telling you how I chose each of the images that are featured.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them.
Icelandic Textures Collection
This cover is so fun and I love the details of it coupled with the splash of colour on an all white background. I decided this would be a perfect compliment to the Icelandic textures collection I´d put together. The shine of the sand as the sea rolls out together with the sparkle of the windswept dunes, next to the intricate details of a snow covered mountain side and the shapes of a frozen lake, there was no cover better suited to this example of the finer details of the Icelandic landscape that I hold so dear.

Icelandic Beaten Path Collection
Another book cover I couldn´t resist, not least because I´ve been calling “IT´S DINOSAUR TIME!” since bringing it home. There was no other collection that would be more perfect for this cover than the Icelandic beaten path collection featuring various roads I´ve travelled off the beaten path. For each of these roads it wouldn´t be hard to imagine a dinosaur stomping up behind the camera and eating me whole and no one would hear me scream!

Icelandic Winter Collection
A cover made for me I think, a cat lover sporting pink hair. From the Ice blue of the cover to the ice around the cat´s neck I thought it most fitting for an Icelandic winter collection. I particularly wanted to show the more snowwy side of Iceland for this collection and put together images worthy of the Ice in Iceland. My favourite of the images was actually the most difficult to hand print and that is the one featuring a total white out snow on rocks scene that I likened to being on the moon. In actual fact if you look closely you can actually just see the moon low in the sky over the mountains, or could it possibly be what earth would look like from the moon?

Icelandic Dream Collection
This is a double whammy as it´s my favourite cover and set of images all in one. Each of the images were picked as a direct mirror of this cover and the pages flying out of Hugrún´s book. An added note about the quality of the cover itself is everything about it screams love and attention that went into making and producing this book, the feel of it and the detail in the illustrations. This gave me a deeper sense of giving it justice with the images I chose to sit in it and I believe I did that. Each of the images are dream like in nature and would not be out of place gracing the pages flying out of the book on the cover.

Austrian Idyllic Collection
The biggest of all the covers and it may be in Icelandic but the imagery screams the Alps and I´ve got the perfect collection to fit. The first image I thought of when I saw this book was the Alpine House and I knew there and then that the rest would be built around that one. The tree mountain is one of my favourite images of all time and shows the scale of Austria and the Alps. The alpine cow that has featured in her own blog post of mine had to be in this collection also as a stereotypical feature of these parts. The final image showing a windswept cornfield completes the collection as a representation of the widespread farm lands across the country.

Austrian Summer Collection
The smallest of all the books I fell in love with this cover from the second I saw it and incidentally is the only non-Icelandic cover in the series. But who could ever resist the combination of bright purple and Peanuts? I decided this would be best fitting for the Austrian Summer Collection of images from my 2019 travels there where the weather was scorching hot but the scenery was magical and definitely fits with the theme of this book and for sure “Happiness is…summer in Austria”
